Aref Al Awani is the current Director of the Abu Dhabi Sports Care Program. He is a member of the current FA player’s status committee and is involved in applying FIFA’s rules and regulations regarding registration of professional and amateur players.

Previously Al Awani was assigned as Secretary General of the Alwahda Football Club and as a member of the Executive Committee his involvement was to oversee the administrative issues of the club, in addition to managing the marketing of the different available spaces of the club facilities and enhancing the possible return from selling the team shirt and any available space in the stadium.

Al Awani setup and supervised a new media and communication strategy for the club which enhanced the club’s image in the local media channels.

Prior to joining Alwahda Al Awani was involved in organizing the Zayed Youth Cup for three years as Head of the Marketing and Public Relations committee.

In 2003 Al Awani was a member of the local organizing committee for the FIFA Youth World Cup.
